OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR DESIGN

REFINED SIMPLICITY. This is something we work hard to perfect. While we may have differing views on what is "elegant", we humbly present here our guiding principles in design.

1.) Simple and tasteful. The Filipino's current penchant for the "production number-act" is something we have discussed and studied thoroughly among ourselves.

This may be something we have acquired from television and from our increasing buying power. In the end, our homes end up being filled - to every crook and cranny - with things: huge aparadors and dividers go side by side with knick-knacks from our travels, as well as with our seeming fetish for souvenirs from just about any event and place. In short, horror vacui. However, Filipino design as gleaned from our history and traditions, hardly border on the loud and boorish.

The work of our indigineous peoples and local weavers attest to the beauty of our artwork. This concept - simple and tasteful - is at the core our design sensibility.

2.) Conversation-friendly and comfortable arrangements. Although the aim to make our designs conversation pieces in themselves is already a given, VATEL MANILA draws the line on the theatricality that pervades the current design concepts of many catering and event firms in Manila.

In our review of current practices, many design firms resort to the "shock policy" - that is, they capitalize on their ability to shock guests with venues teeming with flowers, lights and other pompous what-nots like employing yards upon yards of fabric, supposedly to make it "an event like no other" or "an event to be remembered".

Sometimes, even tables - from the main sponsors to the guests tables in a wedding setting, for example - are filled to the brim with flowers designed to block guests from seeing each other thus impeding conversation; tables are bathed in silk or organza, apparently designed to astound the visitor BUT without consideration of their comfort or safety.

The end result: uncomfortable and crampy arrangements. While we only suggest and can provide suggestions as to how to put life into your own concepts, the overall idea, really, is to effortlessly evoke images of the grand and the sophisticated without being distracting and obstrusive.

In the end, the true winners will be you and your guests - with the reward of pleasant memories arising from the things your ideas and our guidance / expertise can do together.

"Dear Dylan, this is a letter that's been long time coming. I had no idea that settling into wedded bliss takes so much of my free time! But I now finally have some time on my hands, and decided I really had to hunker down and write to you our letter of utmost thanks.

To tell you the truth, the beauty and perfection of my wedding day had me, and still leaves me, quite speechless. I had always wanted a garden wedding, one that would capture the romance, beauty, and hope of a new direction in life all in one perfect little package. You did that, and more.

It was better, much better, than anything we had hoped for, or even dared imagine. I couldn't at the time quite wrap my head around the details, all the painstaking details that you conceived of in order to make it the most wondrous day possible. From my beautiful, beautiful bouquet (which I even placed in a jug at the hotel after the wedding to make it last longer!), and the hand-tied bouquets of my small entourage (with the amazing interplay of various shades of pink to make it 'pop'), to the ceremony area itself with the light pink roses in white baskets, as well as the lanterns and white birdcages lining the entrance of the ceremony area: all I could do [was] to sigh at the splendour of it all. It was all just so right.

I really could not have dreamed it to have been any more perfect than it was. I wanted to fold it all up, put it in my pocket, and take it home with me. It was all so, so special. And the most special thing of all was that, through it all, we met you.

So thank you, Dylan, for giving us not just a wedding day, but the wedding we had so desired. These memories will last us a lifetime. And my [hair] orchids!!! My wonderful orchids!!! "Hi Dylan, sorry for the late reply. We've been too busy going on trips, setting up house and adjusting to married life that I was only able to check your blog last night... Actually last night lang ako nagkachance mag-Internet uli. Hehe. What can I say aside from a huge THANK YOU? You've been our favorite supplier from the start. When we got engaged, our first priority was to find a venue that would fit my idea of a dream wedding since Sid didn't have any particular preference anyway (beach, garden, hotel or whatever - he just wanted to give me what I wanted hehe). I don't know if you watch One Tree Hill, but my two favorite characters (Nathan and Haley) got married in a garden. After I saw it, I knew I wanted a garden wedding myself. We checked out a lot of garden venues, but there was always something off - either the garden was too small, too expensive or too fake" (i.e. not a real garden - just green carpet or pavement with a couple of potted plants around). When we first went to The Mango Farm, we were actually on our way home from checking a couple of other venues in Antipolo. We weren't supposed to go to the Mango Farm anymore because I was already too tired, but my sister-in-law insisted that we drop by. I'm so glad we did, because we fell in love with the venue at first sight.

Here are the reasons why I loved The Mango Farm:

1. It really fit my idea of a dream wedding - walking on real grass, with lots of trees around. Plus mangoes are my favorite fruit, so that's a plus!

2. The entire area was huge - we were able to have the wedding at one area, the cocktails at another area, the fire lantern release at another area, and the reception at another area. I hate it when guests feel so constricted and can't move around. Also, I really wanted a separate venue for the ceremony and the reception - I don't like having the guests seated around round tables (with their spoons and forks and glasses of water)while the wedding is going on kasi parang nakakagutom lang. Plus the focus seems to be on the upcoming meal, not the wedding. When I went to The Mango Farm, I was only looking for a garden where the wedding could be held - I was planning on looking for another venue for the reception. So when I saw how spacious the Mango Farm was, I just knew it was the perfect place.

3. The parking area was huge as well. I've been a guest to a wedding na sobrang nahirapan ako maghanap ng parking.

4. There was an enclosed building (the Glass Pavilion) in case of rain.

5. We were able to use the entire area exclusively. I've been to a wedding at Fernwood and you can actually hear the wedding reception going on at the next garden. It destroyed the solemnity and intimacy of a wedding. Plus various guests were milling around - you wouldn't know who was a guest at which wedding. Siguro if we wanted to, pwede kami makikain sa kabilang wedding. Haha.

6. The price was affordable, plus we got great value for the amount we paid given all the above-mentioned benefits.

7. MOST IMPORTANTLY, we love our contact person at The Mango Farm! Seriously Dylan, we couldn't have done it without you. I don't know if you remember, but when we first met, I still wasn't sure how to go about planning a wedding and I didn't know exactly what I wanted. You really helped us in our planning process by giving us suggestions and even giving tips on various matters like caterer, musicians, etc. I'm sure if you ever feel like it, you could have a career as a wedding coordinator aside from being a florist and event stylist.

I'm just wondering if you spoiled me by replying to my emails and text messages within the same day kasi I began to expect the same kind of service from our other suppliers, which most were unable to meet. (Did you know we frequently had to call the mobile phone or send follow up emails/text messages before we got a response from other suppliers? I'm not sure if that's the norm though, baka nga ikaw lang yung kakaiba).

Ako pa naman personally, pag nasungitan ako sa kausap ko (like when shopping), kahit gusto [ko] yung isang bagay, iiwan ko talaga. My reason is that since my job in (Note: bank name withheld) is mainly about relationship management and client servicing, I'm very particular about the service I get when I'm the customer. I think I told you before that you're giving me a great example of what exemplary customer servicing is like.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I love the wedding ceremony arrangement too! I actually didn't notice the brown ribbon cross during the wedding (I was too overwhelmed and emotional haha) - napansin ko na lang sa pictures after I read your blog. I also loved that I felt like you really wanted to give me whatever I wanted when it came to choosing the arrangements, designs, etc.

So once more, THANK YOU for everything. If I had to do the wedding all over again, I'd still book The Mango Farm. You better show this email to your boss so that he knows how grateful Sid and I are because we found The Mango Farm (the perfect wedding venue) and we found you, too (the perfect contact person).
